  • Can I claim a rebate through Medicare or my private health insurance?
If you have a mental health treatment plan from your GP you will be eligible for Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Your GP can refer you for an initial 6 sessions, with a further 4 sessions available after your GP has reviewed your condition. If you have a mental health plan and your banking details are registered with Medicare, we can process your Medicare rebate for you. At your appointment you will need to pay the full session fee, with the rebate done after payment. The current Medicare rebate for seeing a clinical psychologist is $137.05 per session. If you choose to attend without a mental health plan or are not eligible for one, you may be able to claim through your private health insurer. Private insurance companies offer different rebates on psychological sessions so you are advised to contact your provider.
  • How many sessions will I need to attend?
The number of sessions you will require will depend on the issues and goals you want to achieve. Some people require as few as six sessions to experience a shift in their mood or to solve their issues. However, most people will require at least 10 sessions to achieve real change, and some people with chronic and/or complex issues will require more. We usually start with weekly sessions and then depending on progress, sessions may be extended to fortnightly or monthly intervals.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
The cancellation policy is in line with most other psychology practices and the recommendations of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice incur the full fee cost (100%) because the session is unlikely to be filled with another booking, and importantly, committing to sessions is an important element of improving mental health. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice incur a 50% of the session fee. Please note that unattended sessions cannot be claimed under Medicare.
  • If I cannot attend the Practice, can I make a telehealth appointment with my Clinical Psychologist?
Yes. At North Psychology we are able to offer appointments via secure video-link to all of our clients. Currently, due to COVID restrictions some sessions are offered via tele-health. In instances where face-to-face appointments are necessary, clinicians and clients are required to wear face masks. Fees for tele-health sessions are the same as face-to-face sessions. If you would like to arrange a tele-health session please contact us on 0411 707 077. Please provide as much notice as possible to set up or change your existing face-to-face appointment to tele-health.
